ACTIVITIES OF THE NORTH CANTON HERITAGE SOCIETY
The
Society serves the greater North Canton community by:
- taking
the lead in programs and projects emphasizing local community heritage;
- producing
for public distribution a documentary video and a pictorial history book on
our rich heritage;
- publishing
the Patchwork Quilt, our official publication, quarterly;
- visiting
local Fourth grades presenting a slide program and special educational
activities highlighting North Canton’s history;
- interviewing
those wishing to share their experiences in order to record and preserve the
story of this unique community;
- maintaining
educational displays at the Heritage Society, the North Canton Public
Library, and at selected community events;
- developing
and presenting other educational projects and programs;
- providing
photographs and artifacts on loan for special displays and programs;
- sharing
historic moments and anecdotes in newsletters and articles in the media;
- offering
a variety of opportunities for public support of the Heritage Society, by
having various levels of membership, accepting monetary and historical
donations, conducting an annual meeting for all members in March,
maintaining a gift shop, and by sponsoring special fundraisers such as the
Fall Pasta Dinner and the Holiday Home Tour;
- participating
in local events such as the Main Street Festival sponsored by the North
Canton Chamber of Commerce;
- cooperating
with related organizations such as the North Canton Alumni Association, the
Ohio and Erie Canal Corridor Coalition, the Hoover Historical Center, as
well as state, county, and local historical societies;
- researching
and organizing family histories, and assisting members in doing the same;
and
- accessing,
interpreting, and preserving artifacts pertinent to our local heritage that
have been donated by civic-minded community members.
